Maison Taittinger's Cuvée Comtes de Champagne 2011, presented here in magnum, is a wine of great mineral power, dense and rich, with magnificent ageing potential.
2011 was a good year for the vines, especially the Chardonnays of the Côte des Blancs, giving the wines exceptional quality. This highly contrasted 2011 vintage was marked by an early and dry spring, forcing the vine's root system to dig deep into the soil to find the water it needed for proper development.
Comtes de Champagne 2011 is a Blanc de Blancs made from Chardonnay grapes grown in the 5 Grands Crus villages of the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger. These are unique terroirs, where the outcropping chalk allows the grapes to draw minerality, power and finesse.
For the production of this great champagne, only the "cuvée" is selected, an absolute guarantee of finesse. Most of the vinification is carried out in stainless steel tanks, but 5% of the wines are aged for 4 months in new oak barrels, one-third of which are renewed each year to enhance the intrinsic qualities of the final blend with its toasty notes.
The bottles mature in the Maison's cellars for 10 years, allowing this vintage to open up with extraordinary energy and ageing potential.
To the eye, the color is a beautiful golden glow of straw yellow with slight gold highlights, and the bubbles are fine, delicate, creamy and captivating.
On the nose, we discover a world of maturity and voluptuousness, with gourmet notes of gingerbread, licorice and meringue. It then opens up to aromas of white-fleshed fruit, cherimoya and mandarin peel, subtly combined with hints of almond pastry.
The palate is generous and chalky, giving it charm and precision. This suave wine transports us with aromas of candied fruit and sweet spices such as aniseed and coriander.
Perfect for an exceptional celebration, this Cuvée Comtes de Champagne 2011 from Maison Taittinger is an ideal match for a starter based on seafood, fine shellfish or fish.
