Louis Roederer 's cuvée Collection 244 bears this name because it is the 244th blending of the House. To take the quality of the House's blends a step further, and to bring greater transparency to the blends, Louis Roederer has embarked on a new approach with the creation of this cuvée Collection.
Made from one-third each of grapes from the "La Rivière", "La Montagne" and "La Côte" vineyards, Collection is composed of a base vintage, reserve wines aged in wood, and wine from the "perpetual reserve", which follows the principles of the solera and was launched in 2012. Each edition of Collection is therefore unique, yet always representative of Roederer's identity and expertise. This Collection champagne is the worthy successor to Louis Roederer's Brut Premier.
Cuvée Collection 244 is composed of 41% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir and 26% Meunier. This cuvée is made with 54% of the 2019 harvest (10% of which is vinified in wood), 10% of reserve wines aged in wood and 31% of perpetual reserve. Malolactic fermentation is partially carried out at 35%, and the wine is blended at 7 g/L Brut.
The year 2019 was marked by a dry, continental climate, breaking all historical temperature records during heatwaves of rare intensity! The wines are both dense and fresh, thanks to moderate yields and superb ripeness.
This Collection 244 is golden yellow in color, with dense, regular effervescence and extremely fine bubbles.
On the nose, the bouquet is immediate, both full and deep, with notes of ripe fruit such as vine peach and william pear, combined with citrus fruits such as lemon and blood orange. Notes of iodine and smoke add aromatic freshness. The nose then opens up to notes of chalk and slight reduction, revealing a concentrated, powerful wine.
On the palate, the attack is sapid, delicious and the texture powerful and greedy, with a very juicy, concentrated sensation as if one were biting into a ripe fruit. The body is silky, but lightened by subtle effervescence. Length is provided by a fine line of chalky freshness.
