Le Clos Notre-Dame 2014 is a Blanc de Blancs champagne from a unique and prestigious clos in Champagne. It is an ideal champagne for an aperitif but can also accompany gastronomic dishes. This cuvée stands out for its purity and finesse.
The Clos Notre-Dame 2014 comes from the Clos Faubourg Notre-Dame, a family monopole of the Fourny family located in Vertus, a terroir classified as Premier Cru. With an area of only 0.29 hectares, this exceptional terroir combines optimal exposure, a unique microclimate, and a remarkable chalky subsoil. The vines, averaging 60 years old, yield grapes of exceptional quality.
The 2014 vintage in Champagne, particularly on the Côte des Blancs, was marked by contrasting weather. After a mild and early spring, the summer turned out to be cool and humid, causing concern among winemakers. Fortunately, an exceptionally sunny September allowed the grapes to reach optimal maturity, offering an excellent balance between acidity and aromatic richness. The 2014 vintage is distinguished by a brilliant freshness and a mineral tension characteristic of the chalky terroirs of this region. 2014 is considered a vintage of great precision, offering promising aging potential.
The vinification of Clos Notre-Dame is done in oak barrels, using only first presses. The aging then extends for 7 months on the lees. The 2014 vintage is bottled and then taken down to the historic cellars of the estate, where it ages for 9 years on the lees. Finally, the champagne is lightly dosed, in Extra Brut, with a dosage of only 3 g/L.
The Clos Notre-Dame 2014 boasts a brilliant golden hue, traversed by fine, persistent bubbles, promising great elegance.
On the nose, this champagne reveals great aromatic complexity with notes of candied citrus, white flowers, and a subtle hint of hazelnut and vanilla, brought by the barrel aging.
On the palate, the attack is fresh and vibrant, marked by a chalky minerality. The mid-palate reveals aromas of ripe fruit, soft spices, and a silky texture. The finish is long, elegant, and slightly salty.
The price of the Clos Notre-Dame 2014 Veuve Fourny bottle is 134,95 €. This cuvée, produced in very limited quantities, embodies the exceptional know-how of the Fourny family.
