The Sigma 20 cuvée from Valentin Leflaive Champagne is an exceptional Blanc de Blancs. Crafted exclusively from Chardonnay grapes sourced from the most prestigious terroirs of the Côte des Blancs, this champagne combines great minerality with fruity notes. Complex and elegant, it is ideal for a beautiful aperitif but also for accompanying gastronomic dishes.
This 100% Chardonnay champagne draws its character from the grand crus of the Côte des Blancs: Cramant, Chouilly, Avize, Oger, Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Grauves. The vines, averaging 40 years old, benefit from a southeast exposure and chalk-rich clay-limestone soil, characteristics that give the wine its minerality and finesse. Vinification combines the use of stainless steel vats and oak barrels for controlled fermentation. The barrels come from the famous Burgundy estate Olivier Leflaive, which is none other than Valentin's father. This cuvée also contains 28% reserve wines, ensuring beautiful complexity. Aged for 31 months on the lees, Sigma 20 reveals a fine effervescence and low dosage that enhances its freshness.
Sigma 20 is not vintage-dated, allowing for exemplary consistency from year to year. However, the number 20 indicates that the majority of the harvest in the blend is from the 2020 vintage. This cuvée highlights the characteristic style of Valentin Leflaive, where the elegance and purity of Chardonnay are enhanced by a precise blend of terroirs from the Côte des Blancs.
Sigma 20 has a bright gold color, illuminated by silver reflections and a fine, persistent effervescence.
The nose seduces with its freshness and complexity, blending aromas of white fruits, yuzu, jasmine, and subtle notes of honey and acacia.
On the palate, Sigma 20 reveals a creamy and chalky texture, accompanied by a salty and refreshing finish, with beautiful aromatic persistence.
