Description

The MA 17 cuvée from Valentin Leflaive Champagne is a Grand Cru Rosé of rare elegance. Combining the finesse of Chardonnay with the richness of Pinot Noir, it seduces with its delicate texture and fruity aromas. It is a perfect champagne to accompany refined dishes, especially shellfish or white-fleshed fish.

The Making of Valentin Leflaive MA 17 Champagne

The MA 17 cuvée is a perfectly balanced blend composed of 51% Pinot Noir and 49% Chardonnay, sourced from the Grand Crus of Ambonnay and Mesnil-sur-Oger. The vines, averaging 20 years old, benefit from a southeast exposure and grow on varied soils: flint and chalk for Mesnil-sur-Oger, clay-limestone for Ambonnay. These characteristics give the cuvée a unique richness and complexity.

The name of this cuvée, MA, comes from the two terroirs present in this blend: Mesnil-sur-Oger and Ambonnay.

Vinification and aging were carried out in stainless steel vats. 19% reserve wines enrich the blend to provide additional complexity. 11% red wine from Ambonnay is added to the blend to give the rosé tint, but also the aromas of red fruits. The cuvée is then aged for 36 months on the lees. The dosage (6g/L) is adjusted to preserve the freshness and purity of the aromas.

The MA 17 Vintage

The MA 17 cuvée is not from a single vintage, but it is based 81% on the 2017 harvest. In 2017, the harvests in Mesnil-sur-Oger were marked by complex climatic conditions, alternating frost and heat waves, but offering Chardonnay grapes of great purity and beautiful acidity. In Ambonnay, the Pinot Noirs showed optimal maturity thanks to a sunny end of the season, revealing rich and structured profiles.
