      Description

Grand Blanc Extra-Brut 2014, blended solely from Chardonnay, is an exception in the Philipponnat range, which has made Pinot Noir its signature. A unique opportunity to discover a variation on the House style in the form of a Grand Blanc de Blancs.

The year 2014 was characterized by mild temperatures and frequent rain. Warm weather set in at the beginning of April, bringing the vegetative cycle forward by 10 days. Full flowering begins in June. Summer is dotted with dry, wet and cool spells. The Chardonnays combine notes of white flowers and citrus fruit, with a full, tangy mouthfeel.

This cuvée is made exclusively from Chardonnays grown on Premiers and Grands Crus terroirs in the Côte des Blancs.

The wines are vinified partly in stainless steel tanks, with partial malolactic fermentation, and partly in wood, without malolactic fermentation. The Extra-Brut dosage of 4.25 g/L preserves the purity and nobility of its origin.

The cuvée has spent 6 to 8 years in the House cellars to develop its aromas and bring out the secondary and tertiary flavors, the hallmarks of prolonged aging on the lees.

This cuvée has a light gold color with a fine, creamy mousse.

The nose is open and expressive, combining delicate aromas of white flowers, citrus fruit and bergamot.

The palate is fresh and expressive, with citrus and exotic notes of passion fruit. The finish is mineral and very elegant.

Maison Philipponnat's Grand Blanc 2011 Extra-Brut is a champagne to be served as an aperitif at 7°C, or at 10°C with white fish or shellfish.
