Cuvée 1522 from Maison Philipponnat is a concentrated, precise champagne that can be enjoyed as an aperitif or with fat poultry or spicy dishes.
Cuvée 1522 2015 is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from Grand Cru terroirs. The Pinot Noir comes from the house's historic vineyard in Aÿ, while the Chardonnay comes from Verzy on the Montagne de Reims.
Some of the wines are vinified in oak barrels, without malolactic fermentation, to preserve tension and develop aromatic complexity. After bottling, Cuvée 1522 Grand Cru 2015 spent 7 years in the house cellars before being disgorged and dosed as Extra Brut.
The champagne is pale gold in color, with fine, lively bubbles.
On the nose, this 2015 vintage of Cuvée 1522 Philipponnat reveals lovely notes of sweet almond, candied lemon peel and red fruit paste. The nose is concentrated and precise.
On the palate, the wine is fresh and pure. Then reveals its broad aromatic palette, evoking spices and ripe fruit. The texture is chalky and the finish very mineral.
