Cuvée 1522 vintage 2005 by Philipponnat is a tribute to the House's roots. It's an expressive, fruity cuvée that goes perfectly with seafood or fine poultry.
The name 1522 is a tribute to the year the Philipponnat family settled in the village of Aÿ. This cuvée is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. The Pinot Noir comes from the famous Léon parcel in Aÿ, while the Chardonnay comes from the Oger terroir.
This champagne is vinified in wood to add a touch of complexity, and does not undergo malolactic fermentation to preserve its freshness. The dosage is Extra Brut (4.25g/l) to preserve the wine's signature acidity on the palate.
Cuvée 1522 2005 Philipponnat has a brilliant, intense golden color. Its bubbles are fine and lively.
The first nose is expressive and greedy, with notes of blackcurrant and acacia honey. The second nose reveals aromas of gingerbread and a light vanilla finish.
On the palate, this is a champagne of fine minerality, developing a spicy presence (white pepper). The finish is long and vinous, with aromas of red berries.
Philipponnat's Cuvée 1522 goes perfectly with seafood, poached or grilled fish. It can also be paired with capon.
