The Le Mesnil Vintage 2014 champagne is a true tribute to the elegance of the Grand Cru terroir of the Côte des Blancs. With a fine and delicate mousse, it reveals fresh aromas and beautiful minerality, in perfect balance. It is an ideal cuvée for an aperitif.
The Cooperative of Mesnil-sur-Oger is one of only two cooperatives in Champagne authorized to use the village name as a commercial brand. Mesnil-sur-Oger is one of the most emblematic Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs. It is a terroir where chalky soils and poor soils force the vine to delve deep into the soil for nourishment. The result is grapes of great freshness and immense minerality.
The year 2014 was once again technical with a summer marked by delicate climatic conditions: cold and humidity. A more clement weather from August 15th allowed the production of a beautiful vintage that has not yet revealed all its secrets.
This Vintage 2014 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is made from Chardonnay exclusively from the Grand Cru terroir of Mesnil-sur-Oger. Vinified in stainless steel tanks to preserve maximum freshness and lightness, the wine is then bottled and taken down into cellars located several dozen meters underground. The tirage was carried out in 2015 and the disgorgement in March 2022, offering a complex and well-structured champagne. This cuvée is also distinguished by its unique blend, composed half of wines that have undergone malolactic fermentation and half of wines without malolactic fermentation, which preserves the freshness and vivacity of the chardonnay while adding depth to the mouthfeel. The sugar dosage of 6.5g/L provides a perfect balance between acidity and roundness.
The Le Mesnil Vintage 2014 presents with a shimmering golden color, slightly amber, accompanied by a fine and persistent mousse, forming an elegant bead of bubbles.
On the nose, this cuvée reveals lovely notes of fresh fruit, but also a palpable minerality. On the second nose, after a few minutes of warming, gourmet notes with a touch of brioche are found.
On the palate, the Vintage 2014 cuvée reveals a beautiful lively attack, dominated by citrus notes (lemon, grapefruit) and a touch of physalis in the finish. The structure is elegant, with a creamy texture and marked minerality, typical of the Mesnil terroir. The finish is long, supported by beautiful tension and persistent freshness, magnified by the low dosage.
The price of the Le Mesnil Vintage 2014 champagne bottle is 52,95 €. This price is explained by the Grand Cru origin of the grapes, the precision of the winemaking, and the long aging in the cellar, giving this cuvée an unparalleled richness and complexity. An excellent quality-price ratio for a champagne of this quality.
The reviews of the Le Mesnil Vintage 2014 are unanimous: this cuvée seduces with its balance, freshness, and long finish. Chardonnay lovers particularly appreciate its mineral profile and vivacity on the palate, making it a champagne of choice for special occasions.
