This Grande Cuvée 170ème Édition is a blend of 195 wines from 12 different years, the youngest dating from 2014 and the oldest from 1998.
The 2014 harvest makes up the majority of this blend. The year 2014 was marked by capricious weather conditions, oscillating between cool and hot periods with marked episodes of rain and drought. The wines developed in good conditions. The contrasting weather conditions preserved the freshness of the grapes, resulting in wines of great tension.
This 170th edition Grande Cuvée is composed of 51% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay and 11% Meunier. Krug reserve wines make up 45% of the final blend, giving the wine roundness and fullness.
In true Krug style, all the wines were vinified and aged in oak barrels, and the bottles spent 7 years in the house cellars before being released.
This champagne is pale gold in color, with fine, lively bubbles.
The nose reveals aromas of flowers, candied citrus fruit and pastry.
The palate is very gourmand, revealing aromas of dried fruit, citrus fruit and jelly, almonds, brioche and honey.
Grand Cuvée Krug is the gastronomic champagne par excellence. It lends itself to a multitude of culinary pairings, from the simplest to the most refined, such as aged parmesan, turbot with truffles, oysters, grilled shrimp, Indian or Moroccan dishes, or as a dessert with carrot cake, tarte Tatin or cheesecake.
