Les Coteaux de Vallier from champagnes Roger Coulon is outstanding for its complexity, its finesse and its length.
Fruit of the 1998 and 1999 vintages, it is a blend of 20% Pinot Noir and 80% Chardonnay, all grown on the magnificent Premier Cru hillsides of a parcel known as Les Champs de Vallier.
Its aromas are smoothed by malolactic fermentation and it is lightly dosed at around 5g/L before being cellar aged for 13 years.
Les Coteaux de Vallier is the product of exceptional winemaking methods used since the creation of this cuvee almost a century ago. Chardonnay grapes all from the same parcel at Vrigny aged in barrel on lees for 18 months… An intense champagne !
Tasting
By Patrick BorrasRoger Coulon Champagne's Les Coteaux de Vallier cuvée is straw-yellow in color, with light tile and orange highlights. The bubbles are very discreet, light and sparse.
On the nose, we find typical Chardonnay notes, with brioche and slightly buttery aromas, enriched by a hint of vanilla. However, the nose remains very fresh and mineral.
On the palate, Les Coteaux de Vallier offers a powerful attack, enhanced by a beautiful freshness and balance. Its fruity aromas blend perfectly with brioche and vanilla notes.
This is a full-bodied, accomplished champagne to accompany a meal, especially certain white meats (poularde, veal). Serve at a temperature of 10°C.
