Louis Roederer's Blanc de Blancs 2008 is a marvellous cuvée of finesse and lightness.
2008 produced one of the finest harvests of the last decade. It was a year marked by a rainy spring and a dry summer, which ensured ideal, slow, gradual ripening. The grapes had an exceptional natural balance of freshness and concentrated flavors.
This Blanc de Blancs is made from Chardonnay vinified partly (15-20%) in oak casks. Malolactic fermentation was omitted to preserve maximum freshness and ageing potential.
This cuvée was aged for 5 years in the Roederer cellars before being offered for tasting.
The dosage is crude, between 8 and 10g/L.
Roederer's Blanc de Blancs 2008 is light gold in color, with bright green highlights and a fine, even effervescence.
The nose reveals a champagne with lightly honeyed floral notes. The second nose reveals hints of candied citrus peel and dried fruit.
On the palate, this Blanc de Blancs vintage offers a supple, round attack, supported by saline notes and relayed on the palate by a chiselled, precise texture of great purity.
Aromas of yellow fruit, spices and dried fruit perfectly complement the chalky, almost powdery freshness of this 100% Chardonnay.
The finish is elegant, long and fresh.
