      Description

The Clos des Goisses 2014 from Philipponnat Champagne embodies the excellence of the Champagne terroir with its power, minerality, and elegance. Originating from a unique and steep hillside, this cuvée is a great wine before being a great champagne. It is a cuvée designed to accompany exceptional gastronomic moments.

The Making of Clos des Goisses 2014 Philipponnat

The Clos des Goisses is a 5.83-hectare enclosed plot located in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. It is one of the oldest and steepest clos in Champagne. Facing due south, it benefits from optimal sun exposure and chalky soils that impart exceptional minerality to the grapes. This cuvée is made from 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay. The vinification, partially carried out in oak (64%), adds complexity and depth. No malolactic fermentation is practiced, preserving the natural acidity to balance the richness of the terroir. Aging for eight years on the lees in the cellar, at a constant temperature of 12°C, allows this champagne to reach perfect maturity. The dosage is Extra Brut, with 4.25 g/L of sugar, highlighting the purity of its expression.

      The 2014 Vintage

The year 2014 was marked by contrasting climatic conditions. A warm and dry spring allowed early maturation of the vines, but the rainy summer required increased vigilance. Thanks to rapid harvesting and meticulous sorting, the grapes harvested from September 13 to 25 showed exceptional sanitary quality. This vintage reveals wines of great aromatic intensity and remarkable balance, despite the climatic challenges.

      Tasting the Cuvée

      • Color

The Clos des Goisses 2014 stands out with a bright golden color, adorned with a bead of fine, persistent bubbles.

      • Nose

On the nose, it offers intense aromas of yellow fruits such as mirabelle plum and greengage, complemented by floral notes of vine flower and acacia. The olfactory finish reveals a slight toasted touch.

      • Palate

On the palate, the cuvée unfolds with an enveloping texture, featuring flavors of fresh fruit, honey, and linden. The finish is marked by a mineral tension and a saline note, a signature of its unique terroir.
