Champagne Lombard 's Cuvée Brut Nature Le Mesnil-sur-Oger Les Corroies de Bas 2016 is a rare and precise expression of the Grand Cru terroir of the Côte des Blancs. From a unique lieu-dit, this unfined Blanc de Blancs seduces with its purity and chalky texture. This cuvée reveals a minimalist, authentic approach to Chardonnay.
This champagne is made exclusively from Chardonnay grown in Les Corroies de Bas, a mid-slope vineyard in Mesnil-sur-Oger. This 55.57-acre parcel, planted in 1971, is planted on a silty-clay soil enriched with graveluches (a mixture of chalk gravel and silt), bringing richness and structure to the wine.
The northern exposure gives this Chardonnay great tension. Theabsence of reserve wines allows a pure reading of the 2016 vintage. The wine was aged for 6 to 8 months in barrels (light toasting), without fining or malolactic fermentation, with stirring of the lees to preserve its natural energy.
After a cool, wet spring, 2016 ended with a fine, dry summer, favoring ripening of the grapes while retaining good acidity. On the Mesnil-sur-Oger terroir, these conditions produced a structured, straightforward and luminous wine. The cuvée was aged for 48 months on laths, reinforcing its complexity and silky texture.
A brilliant pale yellow color, animated by fine, dynamic bubbles, a guarantee of freshness.
The nose is elegant, revealing aromas of fresh pear, crunchy hazelnut and a touch of damp chalk.
On the palate, the attack is lively and straightforward. A meringue texture coats the material, offering a chalky minerality softened by warm, fleshy notes. The finish is taut, pure and saline.
The bottle of this cuvée parcellaire Grand Cru is priced at 89,95 €. An auteur wine that will appeal to lovers of pure, uncompromising terroir champagnes.

Les Corroies de Bas takes its name from an ancient use of the soil, now revealed through the prism of Chardonnay. Its mid-slope position and gravelly soil offer an atypical interpretation of Mesnil-sur-Oger, both fleshy and crystalline.
