Description
This extremely rare wooden case contains 3 bottles from the House of Krug:
- 1 bottle of Grande Cuvée, base 2003
- 1 bottle Vintage 2003
- 1 bottle Clos du Mesnil 2003
Krug decided to make its prestige cuvée, Le Clos du Mesnil, from the difficult 2003 vintage. An atypical year, marked by both spring frosts and a heatwave in August.
These conditions led to an early harvest, which began around August 20, something that had not happened in Champagne for 1 century.
Few houses dared to vintage this year, with the notable exceptions of Bollinger, Moët & Chandon and Dom Pérignon!
The result of this 2003 vintage and Krug's expertise is an explosive champagne. It's a rich, impressive cuvée, full of emotions and aromas. There are notes of lemongrass, pomelo, fresh pineapple and honey.
As always with Krug, the maturity of the aromas is not at the expense of freshness and vivacity.
Krug's Clos du Mesnil 2003 is, once again, a true monument.
More than twenty years have gone into each bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée, created beyond the very notion of vintage to offer the most generous expression of Champagne according to Krug, with exceptional finesse.
Since 1843, Krug Grande Cuvée has embodied the champagne that the house's founder, Joseph Krug, wanted to offer his customers, so that they could enjoy the best Champagne has to offer every year, regardless of the vagaries of the weather.
Krug Grande Cuvée is the House's signature wine, the embodiment of Krug's philosophy and expertise. It is a blend of over 120 wines from ten years, some of which have been kept for 15 years.
The blending of these many years gives Krug Grande Cuvée a unique richness of aromas and flavors, and an incredible generosity that could not be expressed with the wines of a single year.
It then develops exceptional finesse when resting in the cellar for a further six years.
