Christian Gosset's Cuvée Brut A04 Grand Cru is the fourth iteration of the non-vintage champagne to open the range. It's an ample, broad champagne with great minerality.
Christian Gosset is a 58-year-old winemaker! After 35 years of experience forged on the family estate, he decided to strike out on his own and create his own champagnes.
The Brut A04 cuvée is based on 2019, a remarkable year in Champagne, with plenty of sunshine. This base year is blended with around 45% reserve wines. This cuvée blends 85% Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru terroir of Aÿ in the Marne Valley, and 15% Chardonnay from the Grand Cru terroir of Chouilly in the Côte des Blancs and Aÿ.
Vinification is carried out partly in enamelled vats, and partly (15%) in oak barrels to give the wine a light patina. Vinification is carried out with a minimum of intervention, without filtration or chilling. The wine is lightly dosed at 3 g/L.
This cuvée has a yellow color with light golden highlights.
The nose reveals notes of ripe fruit, followed by more pastry-like aromas and a hint of iodine.
On the palate, the attack is frank, then mid-palate, the cuvée finds its balance thanks to a rich, vinous structure. The effervescence gradually melts away to generate a softer texture. The finish is very long, taut, salivating, slightly astringent and adorned with a licorice bitterness.
Christian Gosset's Cuvée Brut A04 Grand Cru can be enjoyed as an aperitif, but also goes well with fish and meats with fairly firm textures, such as red mullet, tuna, pike, game birds, pork or rabbit; great cured hams or hard cheeses.
