Charles Heidsieck has decided to offer a handful of bottles from the legendary 1979 and 1989 vintages. These are bottles, magnums and jeroboams from the Charles Heidsieck oenotheque, located in the deep chalk pits beneath the house.

1979 was marked by a cold, wet winter followed by a hot, sunny summer. The October harvest produced grapes of superb ripeness and, above all, with good acidity, guaranteeing excellent ageing potential.

This Brut Millésime 1979 is a blend of 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay. It was cellared in 1980 and disgorged in 1999.

Only 240 bottles of this Collection Crayères have been offered for tasting by Charles Heidsieck.

This champagne has a deep gold color and fine, sparkling bubbles.

The nose is open and generous, with toasty, smoky notes. After a few seconds, floral and citrus aromas emerge.

On the palate, this 1979 Collection Crayères offers an astonishingly fresh and lively attack. The palate is unctuous, evoking quince and undergrowth.

The finish is intense, sustained and lasts for long seconds. A great champagne that has reached impressive maturity.
