Maison Charles Heidsieck has exceptionally opened its wine library to offer a few bottles of the exceptional Blanc de Blancs 1981. Only 251 bottles from around the world are available for tasting.

In 1981, a mild, wet winter was followed by severe frosts in April and a long, sunny summer. The extremely short harvest took place during a warm, bright October, presenting grapes with a fine balance between ripeness and freshness.

This superb Blanc de Blancs is made exclusively from the House's finest Chardonnays, to which time has given a superb patina. The wine was disgorged in 1988.

This prestigious cuvée has a warm golden color, with fine, energetic bubbles.

The bouquet initially reveals notes of candied citrus, roasted hazelnuts, mocha, then minerality. The nose then opens up to more exotic notes of grapefruit and ginger, bringing great freshness to the wine. A few moments later, gourmet notes of honey and nougat, followed by passion fruit and pine cones, complete this magnificent olfactory picture.

The Chardonnays are brought to their peak thanks to the vintage's fine acidity, which brings an astonishing freshness. On the first palate, notes of mint and eucalyptus surprise, followed by mocha and toasted bread. A zesty character, reminiscent of blood orange, finishes the whole nicely.
