Alfred Gratien's Brut Millésime 2000 is a unique champagne, with a more than symbolic vintage. It is a cuvée with highly developed aromas, evoking spices and dried fruit.
This champagne is a blend that gives pride of place to Chardonnay (64%), complemented by Pinot Noir (25%) and a touch of Pinot Meunier (11%).
Alfred Gratien Brut Millésime 2000 is vinified and matured in small 228-liter oak barrels to bring out its fuller aromas. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out, in order to preserve the terroir's personality and preserve the wine's great ageing potential.
Aging took place under stapled corks, to allow exchanges between the wine and the outside world, and thus develop the aromatic range. The cork's permeability and suppleness encourage the micro-supply of oxygen required for aging. The dosage is around 8.5g/l.
Alfred Gratien Brut Millésime 2000 has an intense, sparkling color. Its bubbles are fine and slow.
On the nose, this champagne reveals an impressive palette of nuances. We discover aromas of gingerbread, hazelnut, candied fruit, nutmeg and cinnamon. After a few moments in the glass, tertiary notes emerge, with a hint of morels, coffee and raisins.
On the palate, this champagne has a round, supple attack, which then reveals a generous, rich and highly aromatic champagne. The texture is light and silky, leaving a very pleasant impression on the palate.
The finish vibrates for long seconds on the palate, on a final, slightly tannic note.
Tasting
By Patrick BorrasAlfred Gratien's Brut Millésime 2000 is an intense golden yellow, with a beautiful brilliance and old gold highlights. Its bubbles are delicate and fine.
The nose is subtle, with notes of white flowers, lime blossom, honey and beeswax. The second nose reveals aromas of dried fruit, bitter almonds and stone fruit.
On the palate, the attack is rather vinous, well-balanced with a freshness brought out by citrus notes. The rich, intense character of this champagne will appeal to connoisseurs of mealtime champagne.
This cuvée is ideal with white meat with cream sauce, or noble fish such as turbot or sole meunière. I recommend serving this champagne at a temperature of between 8° and 9°C.
